LaVerne Edward “Heavy” Olson, resident of Williston, ND, passed away on August 5, 2018 at Trinity Health Hospital in Minot, ND at the age of 73 years from medical complications.
He was born September 9, 1944 in Pequot Lakes, MN. His family moved to Belt, MT where they spent many happy years until he decided to leave school and work at various jobs until he ended up at Wertheimer Cattle Co. ranch in Utica, MT. This is where he met his wife, Linda. They then moved to Gillette, WY so he could work in the oilfield.
After many years of trucking and working on oil rigs, Williston ND became their new hometown. LaVerne drove truck for others and eventually started his own business, Heavy’s Hot Shot Services. Even after retiring he continued to work at Williston Monument and also shuttling cars for Ryan Motors.
Though he was always working, he had time to visit with people. He could make friends easily, liked a good card game and the challenge of fishing. He had a quick wit and always tried to be upbeat, his word meant something.
LaVerne was preceded in death by father Toralf Olson, his mother Eileen Pettibone and his step father Walter Pettibone.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Williston, ND); sisters and brothers: Mary Lownds (Gillette, WY), Don (Shirley) Olson (Richmond, VA), Michael (Kathy) Olson (Moorcroft, WY), Larry (Theresa) Olson (Richland, WA), Bruce (Barb) Olson (Great Falls, MT), Pam (Chester) Bruce (Biddle, MT), Mark (Dawn) Pettibone (Miles City, MT), his daughter from a previous marriage, Betty Jo (Jack) Minor and two granddaughters of Colorado. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, along with many special friends that he considered his family.
Reception to follow the service at Flesness/Bishop residence.
The Everson Coughlin Funeral Home of Williston is caring for the family.
