Darlene Lee, 89, of Williston, passed away at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Williston on Monday morning, November 12, 2018.
Our mother, Darlene Brevik Lee was born on June 29, 1929 in Williston, North Dakota to Ivar and Esther (Hamann) Brevik. Mom had so many wonderful stories about her childhood and how they made a rich, beautiful world from very little; she wore jewelry made from sticky prairie flowers and when she really wanted a bicycle and they couldn’t afford it, she found some handlebars and happily rode her imaginary bike up and down the coulees.
Mom was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. She graduated from Williston Senior High School in 1947, where she was the very first Homecoming Queen. After high school, she attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis where she studied under Sister Kenny.
After moving back to Williston, Mom worked up until her marriage to Dad on December 27, 1950. They had sixty-one years of love and laughter together. Mom had many dear friends and was active in her Church and community. She was a loving, kind, and patient mother.
Listening to the remembrances of her grandchildren, we are struck by the individual and loving relationship that she had with each one of them. All of us had her undivided attention.
Dad always said, “Darlene had five perfect children, but I sure didn’t.”
Surviving Darlene are her son, Marcus (Trish) Lee, their children Erin (Alex) Vournas, Daniel Lee, and Megan Lee, and grandchildren Elias Vournas and Julia Vournas; son, Tim Lee, his children, Chelsea (Gareth) Loy and Kayla (Corbin) Navis and soon to be born grandchild, William Ivar Navis; son, Jim (Karen) Lee, their children Ivar Lee and Nelson (Nicole Masurat) Lee; daughter, Christy (Armen) Suny, their children, Armen Suny, Maren (Tad Huber) Suny, and Raymond Suny; daughter, Ann (Steve) Dorwart, their children, Evan Dorwart and Claire Dorwart; sister, Eileen Brevik; sister-in-law, Mary Brevik and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceding Darlene in death were her husband, Raymond; parents, Ivar and Esther; infant sister, Ardith; sister, Lorraine (Jerry) Bergstrom, and brother, Ben Brevik.
