Darlene Leinen, 82, of Williston, passed away early Friday morning, August 18, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
Friends may call at Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 23, from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM and for the hour preceding the service at the church on Thursday.
Darlene Emily Forseth Leinen was born on September 11th 1934 to Sigvold and Lillie Mattson Forseth in the Athens Township in rural Williston, North Dakota. She was educated at Williston High School, went on to The University of Montana, and then UND – Williston.
Darlene was united in marriage to James Theodore Leinen on November 6, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Williston, North Dakota. She was an active member in the church as part of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters.
Darlene worked in Willison at Farmers Union Insurance, Root Beer Barrel, JC Penney, and La Silhouette. Darlene enjoyed volunteering with United Way as the Secretary. She enjoyed her time with the Rainbow Girls organization as President. Darlene was appointed to the State Social Services Board by Governor Art Link, and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Darlene was also on the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education for many years. She loved to travel on trips to Europe, China and Hawaii. A few of her favorite hobbies included cooking, knitting, gardening, and raising Siamese cats. She also enjoyed raising and caring for horses.
Preceding Darlene in death was her son, Mark; father, Sig Forseth; mother, Lillie Forseth; step mother, Norma.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 63 years, James of Williston, ND; daughter; Jami (Bill) Bourguignon of Hermosa Beach, FL and their children, Jake Oyloe, Bryan Oyloe, Stephanie, and her son Aryan Oyloe, Christian Bourguignon, Corrie Boarguignon; son, Christopher (Sharon) Leinen of Bemidji MN, and their children, Chloe Leinen, Elliot Leinen, and Noah Leinen; daughter, Kathryn (Arron) Manecke and their children, Ellie Adams, Caleb Manecke, and Abbot Manecke; daughter, Murphy (Chris) Lund and their son, Kingston Lund; daughter, Michala Leinen Klein, and children, Ethan Klein and Marli Klein.
